Who was Granuaile?

Grace O'Malley, or Granuaile, was an Irish pirate queen, clan leader, business woman and mother who lived in the 16th and 17th centuries. She was a contemporary of Queen Elizabeth I, whose authority over Ireland she refused to recognise.

Find out more about the fascinating story of Granuaile by paying a visit to our museum.

The Famine

The Great Famine, also known as the Great Hunger was a period of starvation and disease in Ireland lasting from 1845 to 1852 that constituted a historical social crisis and had a major impact on Irish society and history.
